Mexican Day of the Dead

Feliz Dia de los Muertos!

In honor of the Day of the Dead, the high school art class set up an shrine on the stage at school today.

The elementary students also learned about the Day of the Dead in Spanish class and they each assembled a skeleton (this also went well with their continuing study of the human body in science class).

The Itsy Bitsy Spider in Spanish

The children are very excited about Halloween approaching, so this week in Spanish class they learned some words associated with Halloween. They learned how to say "pumpkin" and played a pumpkin matching game. They also made paper plate webs with dangling plastic spiders and learned to sing "The Itsy Bitsy Spider".

Spanish Class

Monday through Thursday, the last class of the day for the Elementary students is Spanish. We have a wonderful new Spanish teacher this year, who has been making learning fun, by using songs, games, and coloring pages.

So far, the children have learned the names of some school supplies,

colors,

animal names,

numbers 1-12, and some food names. Each child has also been given a Spanish name.

Earlier this week, the teacher brought a zampona (a Peruvian Pan flute) to school. She showed the children where Peru was located on the World map and then taught them to play a game with passing the flute, that helped them learn each other's Spanish names.

Each of the children also had a turn trying to play the flute.
