The younger elementary students have continued to learn about what life was like for colonial American children, mostly focusing on education.
They all had a chance to try the lacing "horn books" and to cut out and color a picture of a horn book for their history logbooks.
Then, we made a little booklet with sample pages from the New England Primer and each child had a chance to read a page out loud to the class.
Since we've been learning about the games that colonial children played, we had sack races on Wednesday.
The Older elementary students learned more about colonial home life.

A New Science Unit
Today, the elementary students began a new science unit, SPACE. Ms. Pat welcomed them to their new astronaut training course and gave them each a shiny, black folder to decorate with astronaut stickers.
They began their study of space, right here at home, on planet Earth. They were able to examine several different types of rocks. They looked at the rocks with magnifying glasses, weighed them, and did a streak test.
They have the whole World in their hands!

Wishing Terry a Speedy Recovery
Yesterday, our lead elementary teacher/principal tripped and fell in the parking lot and is currently at home recovering from a broken arm. We just want to let her know that we are all thinking about her and wishing her a speedy recovery. The children made things easier for the rest of us today, by being on their best behavior. They also made some very sweet get well cards.

Friday Science
Today in science, the children learned about digestion and sugars.
They worked on coloring worksheets
and did hands-on experiments about how the liver works as a filter and about sugars providing energy.
Feeding yeast a combination of corn syrup, corn starch, and powdered sugar.
A balloon was then placed over the beaker opening.
After about 15 minutes:
After almost two hours:
They were also able to look at blood cell under the microscope.
